II. Research Plan

2.1 Type of CyberFair: Local

Our project is focusing on the disposal of stray animals in Tainan. ”Li Feng Hwei Ming Guan" is a local group that tries to save the stray animals that are sentenced to death by the government. They have a house that contains nearly 1,500 stray dogs. After sheltering the dogs, they also provide food for free until the dogs are adopted. Their goal is to let the government and the community know that stray animals should have the right to live. Stray animals are the same as humans. They deserve to have their own voice, so do not give up on them. In our project and website, we will discuss and analyze not only "Li Feng Hwei Ming Guan's" contribution and future plans for the stray dogs, but also the disposal situation in Tainan and the mechanism of TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return).

2.2 Information of our society

In the 1600s, Tainan was the capital of Taiwan. The place was full of trade, markets, people, and enthusiasm. However, after 1683, when the Qing dynasty came and conquered Taiwan, Taipei replaced Tainan as the capital. Today, Tainan combines its rich history with modernized city plans. Tourists can see an old, European castle sits between the traditional market and a business skyscraper. Of course, problems occur while modernization and development. Pollution, local security, and industrial transition appears in Tainan. One of the most important problems is the disposal of stray animals, especially the stray dogs. Government does not want to deal with those animals, thus it simply kills the animals. Though, there are amendments and different proposals raised in out legislation, the conflict of whether or not to keep the animals alive and give them a new home or to kill the animals is still an essential one in Tainan.

2.3 Internet Environment

The school proivded the team with LAN Fiber (100MB), Wi-Fi and the school’s own servers to help us with this year’s website desining contest.

2.4 Obstacles

1. On-site interviews and filming

2. Time management

3. Integration management

4. Teamwork

We were not very experienced in certain skills required for this project to be a success, but we managed to learn them as we did our research; hence, we should improve our time management skills. Furthermore, because our seniors shared their experiences, we were able to work on some fundamental ideas and work our way up. However, because of our inefficiency due to lack of teamwork and experience, we faced a myriad of obstacles whilst working on this project. Nonetheless, under our teacher’s guidance and teammates’ help, we were able to finish this poroject, and learn the prominence of having a coherent team.

2.5 Reflections

After this research, we learnt so much about stray animals. At the same time, we realized that everyone could be like Principal Hsu, Lily Oshiro, Wang Feng, and Mr. Yang Huai-Min, making a difference to society. During the research, we faced a myriad of obstacles. We didn’t have enough time for the research, and the members faced problems when distributing the workload. In all, we felt helpess. Until the latter part of the research project, our teachers brought us back together, and continued working hard with one another to complete this project. This time, all of us redefined the meaning of "determination." We saw how resolved Principal Hsu was when rescuing the stray animals; how hard working Lily Oshiro was when fundraising; how determined Wang-Feng was; and how inspired Mr. Yang Huai-Min was when guiding people. We personally experienced the passion and determination that those people felt during this project. In the future, whether it's doing projects, applying for universities, or even chasing our dreams, this experience developed a cruical part of our characters, and that would assist us on our road to success.
