III. Research Elements

3.1 Through the CyberFair research topic, how did we incorporate Taiwan’s education system with our school’s programmer?

When our team finalized the plan for the CyberFair, we mainly did the interviews in person, and incorporated the Taiwanese education system into our research, such as: Integration of language, social studies, arts and humanities, science and technology, and many others to reach the following objectives:
1. Choosing of theme
2. Data collection
3. Field surveys and interviews
4. Analysis and organizing of information
In addition to compliance with the ministerial school education programmes, we incorporated the “Linguistic and Cultural Courses”, other than the basic language courses, combining the thematic studies of Taiwan’s local features, blending in history, geography, economics, transportation, and industries in order to further understand Taiwan. Moreover, this is to train the students in their research methods and accumulation of information. Therefore, this research continues the 12-Year National Education System’s “Variety Learning” and “Integration Learning” spirit, adding on our school’s programmes and research methods. With practice and incorporating the concept of science and technology, students are led to carry out research procedures, thus completing this project.

3.2 Which information technologies did we use to complete this project-based web research?

Using internet teaching rather than the traditional way is much more effective. We don’t need to use the traditional textbooks because searching on the internet is much more efficient, and there’s so much more information up there. Using the internet also provides more accurate information, even though we have to confirm the information we have through means of paper materials.

* Laptop Windows 7 and MacBook Pro OSX - record interview and operate project

* Telephones - contact members and teacher

* Digital Camera - take pictures

* Adobe Photoshop CS3 & CS6(MacBook Pro) - photo editing

* Microsoft Office Word 2010 & 2011(MacBook Pro) & 2013 -

* Dreamweaver CS3 & CS6(MacBook Pro) - website design and upload

* Dreamweaver CS6 - software reference book

* Interview - Independent Volunteer Association interview

* USB - transfer information

* Digital Camera is our most helpful and valuable tool. Without it, the photo gallery on the website wouldn’t have been so amazing.

3.3 What methods did we use to contact one another, and play the role of an “ambassador”?

After our team discussed about the topic, we contacted Mr. Wang-Feng through Facebook, and we also got in touch with Lily Oshiro. Through their approval and notes, and their inconvenience to have an interview since they’re overseas, Wang-Feng and Lily Oshiro recommended a well-known Taiwanese celebrity who would be the spokesperson for their team -- Mr. Yang Huai-Min. When we contacted Mr. Yang Huai-Min about our interest in interviewing him, we were lucky enough to have his approval to interview him in Taipei. Because Li-Feng Huimin Pavilion does not have fundraisiers, the founders of the Pavilion use the resources they have, and evey one of the founders would provide more than a million dollars to their cause as they strongly believe in the principle “Those with manpower will contribute manpower; those with strength will contribute strength; those with money will contribute money.”These successful people in society would rather give up a luxurious life and set their hard-earned money down for their cause of helping stray dogs. And by their cause were we deeply inspired. In addition, when we were interviewing Mr. Yang Huai-Min, we had a set of questions ready for him to choose from and answer. Mr. Yang Huai-Min was very enthusiastic about the interview and provided all the information that we needed. He has been a huge help to our project; had he not helped us and agreed to the interview, our project would not have ended on such a good note.

3.4 What influence did this research project have on us?

During our research on this topic, many students believe that they have undergone a change; but the greatest change is that they developed a new attitude towards learning and researching, and they learnt the importance of teamwork and the distribution of work amongst themselves. Not only that, we were able to learn a skill that we’d never used before; for example, learning how to programme a web using Dream Weaver. This project enhanced our abilities to express ourselves through writing, and trained our analysis skills when doing research. We also learnt to use different methods to overcome an obstacle so that we will be able to achieve the best result.

3.5 Respecting Intellectual Property Rights and Notes

When attending this year’s Cyberfair, we learned a lot more about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) from our teacher, which includes the citation of pictures and texts. The entire website is protected under the IPR. Also, since the pictures, videos, and the interview are under the scope of IPR protection, one cannot utilize the content of the website or the information related to the Club in any public occasions or commercial activities without proper authorization from the members of Li-Feng Huimin Pavilion.
