Detailed Evidence of Learning and Education Value

To all of the members in our team, attending the international CyberFair is not only a significant coming-of-age experience but also a major milestone in our journey of learning and improving as a student. In schools, student usually obtain pieces of knowledge from daily lectures and in class activities but rarely have the chance to conduct independent research or reach out to prominent figures in the public for consultation and interview. During the process of building up our project, we successfully stepped out of our comfort zones.

The first event that we believe that served the most educational value of this entire project is the opportunity to contact the famous monument restorers. Through the experience, we learned the crucial skill of being able to arrange and organize matters. That is to say, all of the interviewed individuals are extremely busy and we must finish our required task within their time limits. Therefore, we learned to quickly draft up questions and run the interview smoothly. Most importantly, we learned to be outgoing and not afraid of talking to unfamiliar individuals. We believe that this is of paramount importance since when we enter the society, we would have to face people with different backgrounds, personalities, and opinions. Being able to talk to these people without shyness will definitely benefit us a lot in the future.

The second event happened during the process of building up our project that served significant learning value to us is the ability to conduct independent research. When we first chose our topic, we were anxious of the amount of research that was required. However, when we carefully divided the work into several branches, things turned out to be less complicated since everyone focused on his or her own aspect of the topic. Noticing the fact that not all resources and data were reliable, we not only improved our skills of filtering information but also our efficiency of conducting independent research.

Last but certainly not least, obtaining the skill of communicating with each other in the most efficient and effective manner definitely was one of the most important achievements during our work. Although having a group of competent students working as a team seems perfect, problems inevitably existed. For instance, every individual had agreed to continue our work at school during the winter break. However, the truth was that not everyone was able to attend school and have their work completed. Alerted, we constantly reminded each other through the internet to have our work done no matter what, and that we shall never give up due to any kind of obstacles.

The Research Process and Learning Outcomes

To be honest, the research process was extremely challenging. For all parts of our project, we had to research online for different resources and information. For example, for the related laws and procedure of monument restoration in which we had to rely on reliable resources to get the accurate information, lots of effort were required. During the process, the information might overlap, and we had to find out the needed ones and put them into a complete article.

After the whole process of researching, we learned lots of things. First, the skill of accurately putting the related keywords into our browsers was essential. Without effective keywords, we would not have finished our project so completely. Second, the ability of efficiently organizing the gathered information was improved during the process. Because of the numerous amount of information collected, each of the team members had to paraphrase the paragraphs and remake the graphs for higher quality. Third, for the information, we had to eliminate the unreliable blogs or websites, and focus on official resources. The last thing we learned was how to compare the information from different sources and merge them into a sophisticated project. Not everything is accurate on the internet, and some of the sources were not usable, so we had to check through all of them and ensure the quality.

Future Plans

As a team, we the revivers, are lucky enough to have such an unforgettable experience ofunderstanding the process of monument restorations, while being familiar to Taiwan history and the culture behind. This is one of the greatest opportunities for us to learn what exactly are the stories behind our history and how precious these monuments are through the preservations and repairs after generations. For us, this is not only a memorable project but also an important knowledge that should be well-known. It gives us the path to get known with our ancestors.
Monument restorations not only help pass down the heritage of ours but also the spirit of our antecedents. For us, it is essential to know how monuments are kept in order to preserve our cultural heritage and pass it on. In the future, we will continue to spread out the knowledge we learned from this project, so our families, friends, and even the crowds can absorb more of these pieces of information and together protect these historical sites. We will let everyone see how monuments can affect us, affect our lives. If there were no monuments, where should we, as a starting point, get familiar with our ancestors? We can see their lifestyles through their constructions and from the building materials they use, we can get closer to see their preferences and as those change, we see how these changes impact their livings as well as ours. We inherited their lifestyles and as it is evidential, we still conduct many of the construction techniques and methods that were used in the past. Therefore, it is absolutely an essential task to let everyone knows the importance monuments bring to this society and how they help preserve our culture.

According to this articles from the Yunlin county government, we can realize how the Yunlin Cultural Affairs department is trying hard to invite people to visit monument restoration sites and experience the working process. Moreover, these kind of monuments restoration exhibitions have already appeared in Japan before. Both Taiwan and Japan are hoping people can not only get closer to understand the traditional architecture in their hometown but also to recognize the importance of monuments restoration.

This article talks about the how monument restoration technology is gradually being lost in Taiwan. Due to the dangerous working conditions, most restorers stopped doing the restoration work. People are afraid that the valuable repairing skills and experiences are going to disappear in Taiwan after a few more years. Therefore, this gives us insights on how the society must pay more recognition to these monument restorers and promote the brilliant field to prevent it from being lost.
