Our topic is focused on “Book House 60”, who is currently cooperating with Carrefour to perform their food sharing plan. Taiwan is facing the problem of overpopulated elders, especially at the southern airport community located in Taipei city. The abandoned community was renew through the lead of Hesheng Fang and volunteers. Hesheng Fang set up places for elders to meet together and have a meal. There are also classes setted for kids living in a vulnerable family to guide them through the maze of ambition. In the community, there is also a food sharing restaurant called “Book House 60”, the special feature of this restaurant is that every food served is made from ingredients that aren’t sold out or food that looks ugly and shops nearby will donate them to Book House 60. Even more, the restaurant setted a “food sharing fridge” for people to donate and take food. In addition, the community created the first food bank for vulnerable people to exchange supplies and food with points that are given every month. Therefore, we’d like to let more people know more about the Carrefour food sharing plan and Book House 60 and to notice the difficulties of these vulnerable families through this study to help them.
Nanjichang community is located near Zhong Qinli in Taipei Wanhua. Southern airport community use to be a military airport during Japanese colonial era, then after the KMT moved to Taiwan, it became the most populated village with large-scale buildings, as well as superior public facilities, and was later transformed into a nation house. Through time, the Southern airport community became the oldest state house in Taipei city, it is also the community with most populated elders, old people, low-income households, and vulnerable families became the main residents of the community, and among them, high-risk families are also one of the groups living in Southern airport community. However, after seeing various problems, the mayor of Zhong Qinli, Hesheng Fang, decided to turn the community back on track. In order to regain the sight of neighbors helping each others and prosperity of the old time, he set up the South Airport Lok Garden, Book House 60, food banks, tutoring classes, coffee classes, etc., Hesheng Fang hope that they can improve their quality of life through these public facilities.
Project Summary
Taiwan’s elderly population over the age of 65 stands on the top three in Asia. Research showed that Taiwan’s elderly population has exceeded 14% and officially entered the old age society, which means that every 7 people, 1 of them is an old person that is over 65 years old. Among them, the most serious place is in Taipei City. The increase in the dependency ratio of young and middle-aged adults and the phenomenon of declining birthrates have not only become an important issue that the government's throwed in efforts on to solving, but also a question that every Taiwan resident should think about. Among the elderly people in this group, many of them are living alone, indicating the fact that the elders are facing difficulties in cohabitation with their children, relatives and friends, and lack of adequate care. Can we feel the same as them despite from being young and strong? Perhaps we are facing similar problems in our family, but how can we face and solve them? Therefore, we decided to use "Southern Airport Community", the oldest state house in Taipei City as the topic of this study. We hope that this study will let you know that in the comfort zone of our lives, there is a group of disadvantaged people who need the help of everyone. They are not only the group in the society that needs special care, but also the group that is the easiest to be forgotten by us. In addition, we want more people to know about Carrefour's food sharing plan, Book House 60, the food bank, and all the other social welfare organizations to achieve the role of propaganda, so that everyone pays more attention to this issue.
1.Time Problems: There are four 9th grade students and six 8th grade students in our group. Because of our grades, the time we can get together to do the special research is quite limited. We often encounter situations where we can't meet each other to discuss the topic; in addition to not being able to meet and discuss, everyone's time is quite limited, not only the pressure on the course and the exam, but everyone also has their own extracurricular activities. Therefore, each of us has sacrificed a lot of time in order to make this topic a very outstanding performance. Through this study, we learned the importance of time management, everyone have the same amount of time, but how we allocate our time efficiently to complete this research is the real problem.
2. In terms of writing content, because every teammates write or think differently, the written articles may not be approved by the remaining members. When we can't think of where to start writing or missed the direction, we will first ask the instructor's advice, then discuss each other's general direction, start thinking from a main topic, and then slowly divide the details. At the same time, before writing content, we usually discuss our own ideas with the team members, and listen to other people's thoughts to integrate the most complete data, so that not only can we add multiple different ideas, the content will also be relatively rich.
3. Use of Technology: We use Google docs to write our topic content, this computer software is commonly used by us, so we have not encountered much difficulty. However, when I was doing the website, it was not so smooth because we used Adobe Muse to make the website. This is a skill for us to learn, start from the beginning. Under the guidance of our computer teacher, we know how to do operate Adobe Muse and how to write the program; at the same time, the photos used by the website need to be processed, such as: coloring, retouching, drawing. Through Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, and our computer teachers, we learned how to use these computer software correctly.
4. Teamwork and Communication: Through this interview, we realized that teamwork is the most important part of this special study. It contains three different elements. First, trust is one of the elements. Team members must trust each other in the group and believe that the other party can complete their own tasks. In the team, there must be one or more clear goals, so that everyone can move toward the goal, and each person must play a role, clearly know their tasks, and indeed to implement, otherwise our time will only be wasted. In the process of discussion, it is inevitable that the members of the group will have different opinions and ideas, and they may not be able to identify with others. Therefore, they should communicate and coordinate in a constructive and respectful manner, and accept opinions that are different from their own in order to bring the best way to reconcile your team.
After this special study, we have a deeper understanding of the Yu Xiang Social Service Organization created by HeSheng Fang, including how Book House 60 and the food sharing plan, as well as the food bank directly helped the residents in the community. After the theme setting, background research, text organization and website construction, the team members cultivated understandings and were willing to assist each other. Although this group is composed from two different grades, everyone cooperates with each other. This research gives us an opportunity to explore different side of Taipei and let us know that there is an institution in Taipei that is doing its best to help disadvantaged groups and contribute the most to this society. The positive and decent contribution of Hesheng Fang has deeply touched our team. I watched the lonely old people in the community having enough food and clothing, and have a venue to gather together to communicate, which can reveal the smile from the wrinkles on their face. Such a scene may never be seen again, but it is because of this research that we can grasp the visits outside the school and finally promote these services so that everyone knows that this group of people in Taipei is working hard for their own communities.
