The community and Book House provide hot meals for the elders. The reason for this is because the elderly often have no people to look after them, and they themselves have no ability to work and make money. Sometimes they might eat expired food or forget to eat and take their medicine. Some of the elderly will wait every day for people from the association to bring meals to them because they do not have the ability to cook by themselves. Even if some people can cook, they would still come to the kitchen to eat. For the elderly, what they fear most is loneliness, eating with only themselves every day. So the manager of the community, Mr, Fang Sheng He, opened the Loho Paradise in the community, giving the elderly some space to socialize, and also provides food for them. The volunteers will cook meals and put them in the dining hall for the elderly to eat. This also encourages them to get around and socialize with each other.

1. Food sharing for the elderly:

The food bank in the southern airport has a special way of operation. Families that are vulnerable or they had reported as a low income family will receive a deposit book from the food bank. The food bank will convert their identity card number into a bar code, which the deposit book can only be use by themselves. And they will receive 500 points per month to exchange the demands they need. These supplies are only one-third of the price compare to the food in grocery stores, which means that each family will have $1500 NTD to buy the supplies. Each month, the points will be refresh, so that the points from the previous month will be counted again. This can encourage them to go to food bank and walk out more. Moreover, this operation method can help to reduce the financial pressure for them. Sometimes they will discover that some families don’t have enough points to exchange the supplies they need. In this case, the food bank will require them to join the volunteer in the community. And they can receive 20 points per hour. Mr. Feng doesn’t want these people to think themselves as someone that had no ability to earn the money to live, and can only live under the help of food bank. Instead, he hope to encourage them to live harder and live with more passion, and work harder for their family. In the food bank, there are some food that are almost till the expiration date. The volunteer will put it to a area where the food is free. These food will also be sent to the Loho Paradise, which it can be one of the ingredients for elders.

Providing a place for juvenile delinquents to gain skills, Book House 60 was originally included in the Loho Paradise for coffee courses. Then after several years, they seperated from Loho Paradise, then move to now the official Book House 60 is located. It helps the juvenile delinquents to get back on track and a second chance to change. Currently, Book House 60 is not only a place to learn barista skills; It is an approved examination hall, and a place for kids to study.
