(3) Beliefs

ONE-FORTY have been organizing cultural exchange activities, such as the monthly “Sunday of  the South-East Asia,” and annual exhibition set in SongYen and HwaShan Park. Due to the supportive feedback from the public, ONE-FORTY would like to continue campaign the affairs, aiming to present the migrant workers’ stories to society. Due to the advance in technology, ONE-FORTY utilizes YouTube to share past articles in video form and lives of the migrant workers who returned to their home country, reaching to more migrant workers who seek help or educational opportunities through social media.

Since the organization has been founded, to achieve the “Theory of Change,” ONE-FORTY established ONE-FORTY School, maintaining four principals of “adapt, explore, act, and inspire” and hoping the migrant can discover their goal through lectures, then set a plan. Teachers and staff in the school will help them to achieve their goal by teaching them the knowledge and skills required for their goal. The migrant workers can also meet new friends and gain communication skills. After they return to their home country, their achievements may change their family, or even the entire village, which is the ultimate goal of the Theory of Change.

In the future, ONE-FORTY wishes to broaden their service contents and reach more migrant workers because the team remains small, thus only Indonesian migrant workers join the school. There are about 40000 people who joined the online courses, including those who live in offshore islands. Thus, ONE-FORTY will continue their online education system, slowly expanding the scope of the team, hoping more migrants from other countries to join them.

Mandala

Since when Mandala reached ONE-FORTY, she manifested a clear goal: opening a shop when she returns. Her favour in animals makes her want to open a pet shop or birds shop, also due to the Indonesian tradition of hanging a bird’s cage in front of their house. At the time in ONE-FORTY School, Mandala drew a blueprint of her dream, titling her dream shop and confirming her next goal. Moreover, as an extrovert, she had not just participated in the courses in ONE-FORTY School for three years, but organized a band due to her enthusiasm in performance, traveling to different places to perform every week. In 2019, she returned to Indonesia and succeeded in establishing her store, painting the logo of ONE-FORTY onto one of her walls. She appreciates ONE-FORTY for assisting her in Taiwan; the school inspired her will. Last but not least, Mandala also founded a social volunteering organization like ONE-FORTY; since she felt that the help she received made a significant change to her life, she wanted to bring the morale back Indonesia. Her organization gathered many volunteers to help clear the beaches and rivers. Her experiences in Taiwan with ONE-FORTY completed her dream, prompting her to bring the positive ideas back to her home country.
