Questionnaire About Animals in Taiwan

Our team has been making a survey of stray animals, we hope that we can let people know how to decrease the number of stray animals.  In our survey, there are questions about people’s knowledge about animals and stray animals. This survey is made by Google form and publishes to the public from February 2 to March 5. Surveys were sent to a total of 166 people in Taiwan

Question 1: Your gender?

Result:

65.1% of the people are female.

34.3% of the people are male.

 

Analysis:

In our survey, we can see that more females care about animals than males.

 

 

Question 2: Your age?

Result:

49.4% of the people are 13~18.

14.5% of the people are 19~35.

27.1% of the people are 36~50.

9% of the people are above 50.

 

Analysis:

In our survey, we can see that people aged 13-18 care more about animals. Another reason might be that the younger generation uses the Internet more often.

 

 

Question 3: Do you feel that you often find stray animals on the street?

Result:

70.5% of the people say Yes.

27.1% of the people say No.

2.4% of the people say I don't know.

 

Analysis:

More than 70% of the people often find stray animals on the street so it means there are a lot of stray animals in Taiwan, in other words, the issue of stray animals is a serious problem in Taiwan.

 

 

Question 4: If yes, what will you do?

Result:

64.5% of the people will ignore or avoid it.

15.7% of the people will feed them.

12.6% of the people will tease it.

3% of the people will report to relevant units.

2.4% of the people will send it to a doctor.

1.2% of the people will scare it.

 

Analysis:

More than 60% of the people will ignore or avoid it, only 5.4% of the people know the proper way to treat this problem. The way that we can help stray animals is to strengthen public's knowledge about them, and explain the importance of the issue.

Question 5: Do you have any pets?

Result:

63.3% of the people have pets.

36.7% of the people don't have pets.

 

 

Analysis:

More than 60% of the people have pets. Perhaps people who own pets care more about animals or stray animals than the ones that don’t have pets.

 

 

 

Question 6: What pet(s) do you have?

Result:

70.5% of the people have a dog/dogs.

29.5% of the people have fish.

26.2% of the people have a cat/cats.

9.8% of the people have another kind of pets.

8.2% of the people have a mouse/mice.

4.9% of the people have a bird/birds.

 

Analysis:

Most of the people have a dog/dogs, so percentage wise, a dogs are more likely be abandoned.

 

 

Question 7: How did you get your pet?

Result:

47.1% of the people adopted it.

34.3% of the people bought it from a store.

18% of the people received it as a gift.

 

Analysis:

Almost half of the people adopted their pets. This might be due to the promotion and and policies on pet adopting by Non-Governmental Organizations and the government.

 

 

Question 8: What motivated you to get a pet?

Result:

63.9% of the people want to have a companion.

24.6% of the people just wanted a pet for no apparent reason.

6.4% of the people didn't have a choice, were forced to.

4.9% of the people want for spiritual comfort.

 

Analysis:

About 60% of the people want to have a companion, so the reason might be the pressure of life or that they feel lonely. Once the problem was solved or both reasons are gone they might not need the pets, leading to abandonment.

Question 9: Do you know what TNVR stands for?

Result:

57.2% of the people know what TNVR stand for.

42.8% of the people don't know TNVR stand for.

 

Analysis:

Over half of the people know what TNVR stand for, but there are 42.7 % that do not know about it. TNVR needs to be promoted.

 

 

Question 10: Have you ever helped stray animals?

 

Result:

76.5% of the people never helped stray animals.

23.5% of the people have helped stray animals.

 

Analysis:

This result is showing a direct correlation with question number 4, since about 60% of the people will ignore or avoid stray animals.

 

 

Question 11: Are you familiar with any animal welfare organizations based in Taiwan or in any other country?

Result:

69.9% of the people are familiar with Animal Protection Association of the Republic of China.

38.6% of the people are familiar with Life Conservationist Association.

11.4% of the people are familiar with The PACK Sanctuary Taiwan.

18.7% of the people don't know any animal welfare organizations.

3.6% of people familiar with other animal welfare organizations.

 

Analysis:

 

Around 70% of the people are familiar with the Animal Protection Association of the Republic of China. It might be because the Animal Protection Association of the Republic of China was established the earliest and because it is supported by the government.

Question 12: Do you know what animal welfare groups do?

Result:

86.7% of the people know that animal welfare Investigate animal abuse cases and strive to assist those animals that have been treated cruelly.

80.1% of the people know that animal welfare Collaborate With other animal protection, animal rights groups, the government, etc.

66.9% of the people know that animal welfare Educate pet owners and teach them how to care for their pets in a responsible manner.

48.8% of the people know that handle everyone's reports.

16.9% of the people know that animal welfare Attend government meetings.

15.7% of the people know that animal welfare Assist in holding press conferences to promote animal welfare.

 

Analysis:

A majority of the people understand that animal welfare groups handle everyone's reports, educate pet owners, teach pet owners how to care for their pets in a responsible manner, investigate animal abuse cases and strive to assist those animals that have been treated cruelly,  collaborate with other animal protection, animal rights groups, or the government.
