Beyond Beauty-Taiwan from Above
Throughout this project, we are required to obtain information online, for the research preparation for the interview and the analysis afterward, paraphrase information, create web pages, and publish the website. In order to complete the data collection, eight of us used a laptop per person to access search engines such as Google Chrome and Safari. For additional data gathering, we used Google Forms to create a survey about the Chi Po-Lin foundation, sending it to others through G-mail or promoting the survey on social media such as Instagram. Since our project includes interviewing the Chi Po-Lin foundation, we also contact the organization and arrange an interviewing time through G-mail and iPhone. Our instructor, Hsiao Shih-Hsuan, used a digital camera to record the whole interview and take photos of our team visiting the Chi Po-Lin foundation. Voice Recording of the interview is also done by “Voice Memos” on iPhone. For creating and publishing the website, we used an online resource called Nicepage and guidance from the instructor, Peng Ying-Tsong. However, the wi-fi connection is important throughout this whole project since we obtained information online. Thus, we used the school wi-fi with a dedicated connection. Lastly, we used Google Docs to document the information and Google Drive to organize every resource for this project, including videos, pictures, and documents, to ensure the organization and efficiency of the project. Overall, the most helpful and valuable tool is our personal laptop. During the project making, the laptop is the tool we use most of the time. The search engines we used to reach for online tools such as Google Forms, G-mail, Google Docs, and Google Drive are included in the Google search engine. Therefore, laptops play an important role in helping us to access the search engine and the majority of additional information tools.
During this cyber fair project, we are required to go out and interview others to collect information and insights regarding the organization. Hence, we went to the headquarters of Beyond Beauty organization in Tamsui to interview director Chi Po Lin's son, also the head director of the foundation. Before the interview, we have to first call them and ask permission and register for an interview, training or skills to speak formally and ask for opportunities. During the interview, we have to ask insightful questions and do quick analysis so that we can ask follow up questions, teaching us how to think critically and respond fast. In addition, we made a survey about environmental documentaries and Taiwan’s geography, then sent it to our classmates, family members and others. Even though the amount of survey feedback we receive is lower than previous year, however, we still receive about 160 survey feedback. From these surveys we can accurately analyze what people understand and what information they are lacking. By analyzing and writing the survey, we can learn how to do data analysis and to ask questions that are not leading but can still help you gain an insightful answer. These are ways we act as ambassadors and spokesperson through this cyber fair project.
The influence of our study based on the CyberFair project is not restricted to the community aspect; it has the potential to extend throughout society, even worldwide. The initiative taught individuals on fundamental environmental issues related knowledge; this is also a chance for those who are interested and needed in this field to learn more about the topic. We make every effort to distribute this knowledge, such as creating social media accounts, releasing websites, uploading the interview video with both Chinese and English subtitles. Since then, our team believes the information will be spread to a wide age range when they need the information for help or support. Yet, we do not expect the potency and result to be discovered immediately, implying that the initiative might have no impact on anybody. Our project is on the Cyber fair website, which means we are able to raise awareness of this topic around anywhere in the world. We are sure that more than 300 people have already seen our project and learned more about this topic.
Throughout this project, our study received help from numerous people. First of all, we would like to thank the Chi Po-Lin Foundation and its chairman, Mr. Chi Ting Huan, for agreeing to have an interview with us. During the interview, Mr. Chi Ting Huan not only shared his inspirational thoughts with us but also provided countless details about environmental issues in Taiwan. We really appreciate his efforts in providing the previous information. With the information, we get to expand our knowledge about the Chi Po-Lin Foundation’s achievements and goals, further completing our research. Second, we would like to thank those who filled out our survey. The data collected from the survey enables us to revise and improve our project based on the public’s opinion. The suggestions make our project better and enable us to create a better project. Last but not least, we would like to thank our instructors, Bear Shaw and Wings Peng. Both instructors showed patience when discussing and guiding us. Without them, our group will not be able to connect all the pieces and complete our project. In short, we would like to thank everyone who participated in helping us. With all the help, our group is able to come up with a wonderful project and spread our ideas.
