Project Overview
Taiwan, an island surrounded by an ocean in the Eastern part of Asia, is known for its advanced technology industry and growing economy. While the country continues to develop, Taiwan’s local businesses play a crucial role in promoting sustainable ideas and improving better living conditions. Many businesses provide employment and essential services, which boost the local economy and help the environment to thrive. These local businesses contribute to society and economic sustainability by creating job opportunities for people to work and grow. In addition, local businesses in Taiwan are adopting green practices, which use renewable energy and reduce waste to minimize the carbon footprint of our country. This shift toward sustainability not only benefits the environment but also creates long-term economic opportunities for local communities. Eventually, this may create Taiwan’s local businesses to contribute significantly to the nation's future well-being and prosperity.
Modern cities started to face challenges like rapid urbanization, uneven development, and the loss of cultural heritage. Without enough announcements, the community has been harmfully affected by the environment in recent years, and businesses have also been significantly affected. In Taiwan, these problems are evident in areas where local tradition is being overshadowed by urban development. These issues led to the problem of an unsustainable society. If we start to encourage and support the local businesses, we offer a solution inclusive of economic growth, preserving cultural identity, and promoting the sustainable urban lifestyle. In this assignment, we’ll mainly focus on developing the business community and creating a sustainable society. At the same time, we’ll deeply understand the purpose of a sustainable country and explore a business that helps Taiwan to become a sustainable country. In deeper research, we found a company named "Guantian Black Gold" that mainly creates unusable water caltrop shells into more usable materials. It not only helps reduce carbon emissions. It’ll also preserve the traditional culture and make the community more inclusive, safe, and resilient. Eventually, we’ll understand how they produce water caltrop shell charcoal, creating materials that can help to create a sustainable community, which will combine with our main theme.
Currently, students use the internet for multiple things, including research information, doing assignments, and survey-making. For our project, the internet has played a key role in completing our work. In our classroom, the connection speed is around 10.58 Mbps for uploading and 2 Mbps for downloading. Nevertheless, since our school is located up in the mountains, the internet connection won’t always be that stable. When the Wi-Fi isn’t working, we use wired internet to ensure that we stay connected. Therefore, our team has access to nine iPhones, nine MacBook, and nine iPads, which allow us to stay connected and make sure we complete our tasks at school and at home. These devices emphasize how important the internet is to our project to be successful.
Throughout our project, we encountered some problems that helped us to develop our relationship to become stronger. First off, we took a lot of time to choose the topics. Even though this is the second time to done this project, still can’t find the topic that helps us to promote the culture of our community. As we finally found out the topics for our Cyberdair project, the problems seem to never stop. The company didn’t want to keep attention on us and kept not replying to our messages. Therefore, we need to find a new topic. Furthermore, some technological issues happened during the interview. The photo exposure was too long, making the picture overexposed, which meant we had to take extra time to edit the pictures. Moreover, the video recording for this interview was too long, and it took a lot of time to download, which caused the editor to wait for a long time. In overcoming these challenges, our group learned to collaborate and solve problems more peacefully. Communication skills play a significant role in the building of good team cooperation.
Our CyberFair project addressed multiple content standards by having language, research, and communication skills. We used different methods to collect the data and information about studying the local businesses and water caltrop’s shell. It aligned with our school’s guidelines by developing student collaboration, critical thinking, and community engagement. Through this project. We gathered the information by interviewing experts in sustainable development and local business brands. We discovered deeper information in this interview. Furthermore, we understand the main concept of never giving up on helping our community. Our school contained the SDGs knowledge in lots of classes, and our topic is related to the number 11 in SDGs goals. As we were doing this project, it allowed us to understand the real concept of how the real cases of sustainable development function, which can connect to the main points the school always wants us to learn about. The project may teach us about the importance of contributing to the local business of our community. There were still people who tried to help our community to be better. Therefore, we can help them to advertise in more places. Using the Internet for teaching and learning has been more effective than traditional methods when we are collecting data. It was much faster and more efficient compared to traditional methods and could create a Google sheet to analyze all the responses rather than recording by hand and paper.
Participating in the International Schools CyberFair has empowered us to indicate our community’s businesses globally while fostering critical thinking skills.
