Biography

A tragedy struck the 12 years old Cheng Ho, His father passed away, his mother was sent into a mental hospital. Since both of his parents were unable to take care of his sister and the young Cheng Ho, they were sent to Tianmu Orphanage, later adopted by their aunt who lives in America, Georgia. At first, Ho couldn’t fit in completely because of the local culture and language differences. However, He began to adapt to the local way of life after he started playing American football. When he was applying for university, he sent a videotape containing his best American football plays to Harvard and got a reply from them. After studying in a language school, he started his life at Harvard University. Upon graduating from Harvard with a degree in Economics, Cheng Ho gave up the high-paying financial jobs and decided to dive into the sports industry. He was an American football coach in Beijing, then came back to Taiwan to develop educational sports for students like him.

Academic Life

Cheng Ho had to overcome many obstacles when he first came to America, not only does he need to worry about his grades and language, the difference in culture served a difficult part as well. Since he was felling to far behind on grades compare to other students, before he officially went into Harvard he studied in an Egypt school, catching up in a short time, he then smoothly went into Harvard’s economics course. Cheng Ho overcame the difference in culture by joining the reading club and American football club to socialize with local people.

Overcoming His Problems

Cheng Ho isn’t exactly the smartest of people. However, with excellent manners, strong principles, overwhelming confidence, and outstanding performance in sports, he still successfully applied for Harvard University. Having experienced struggles of a student, Cheng Ho realized the dilemma of Taiwan’s educational sport. He took himself as an example to persuade students to maintain both grades and sports, and as a result, he founded the organization Choxue.

Acheivements

Cheng Ho is the first person in Taiwan who got into Harvard using an athletic project, who also got into the Harvard Sports Celebrity List by the time he graduated. Cheng Ho founded Choxue in 2013, 2/28, an organization supported by over 27 high schools, Jeremy Lin, and Chen Chien-chou, which hosts over 143 competitions annually.
