An-Pong Cheng

An-Pong Chen was born in the Military Dependent’s village located in Zhongli. Being the youngest of his three brothers, his father, enlisted in the army at the time, was especially strict with him, no matter his activities or academic performance. This further deteriorated after his brothers ran away from home. His father’s high standards brought immense pressure to An-Pong, which encouraged his intention to leave his home and prove himself.

Childhood

All sorts of people pass in and out of the Military Dependent’s village, which led to An-Pong being acquainted with “sailors” when he was in middle school. After he graduated, An-Pong faked his father’s id and followed the “sailors” to Kaohsiung. Apart from time to really go fishing, An-Pong spent most of his days living at the harbor and going in and out of erotic places.

An-Pong, out of fear, refused being urged to take drugs the first time; however, as time went on, An-Pong grew curious about drugs. Eventually, a couple of months later, he, for the first time, took Ketamine and grew addicted to it. Having tried various types of drugs, An-Pong even became a drug dealer himself: buying low-priced drugs from large sellers and selling them to his subordinates and teenages at school with a higher price.

In and out of prison

Although An-Pong was arrested numerous times and stayed in almost every jail from Taipei to Kaohsiung, it still couldn’t stop him from his addictions. Even though An-Pong decided to wash his hands of taking drugs, he couldn’t resist the temptation when his subordinates delivered “presents” for him. This was all until An-Pong met a pastor in prison and was deeply touched by his counseling classes; for the first time, An-Pong wanted to join the Drug Rehabilitation Association and end his addictions once and for all. Nonetheless, An-Pong couldn’t withstand the boredom of staying in the rehabilitation center and escaped, until An-Pong saw his friend die of drug overdose. He contacted the same pastor, returned to the rehabilitation center, and overcame his addictions by relying on faith and living a simple life.
