Taiwan is a vibrant and dynamic island nation in East Asia, bordered by the East China Sea to the north, and the Philippine Sea to the east. Despite its relatively small size, Taiwan boasts a diverse and captivating landscape. The majestic mountain range runs across the island, and the stunning coastlines offer breathtaking views of the expansive ocean and rugged landscapes, shaping its diverse ecosystem. The island also plays a key role in developing global technology through advanced semiconductor fabrication capabilities, hosting major companies like TSMC, responsible for manufacturing a significant porti
on of the world's semiconductor chips. Taiwanese culture is a blend of Chinese, Japanese, and Southeast Asians, celebrating festivals like Lunar New Year, and the mid-autumn festival, the island also celebrates its indigenous traditions. In the city, skyscrapers stand tall against the sky, defining the modern skyline and showing the bustling energy of vibrant city life. Education plays an important role in shaping a thriving society, emphasizing academic excellence and exam scores are features of Taiwan’s education system. Despite that, some individuals believe the curriculum focuses too much on scores rather than creativity and thinking. Our research discusses how spatial education can be beneficial to education.
Project Summary
Nowadays, education in Taiwan has been constantly improving, and more and more people are able to access education through the internet. In this project, we’re investigating quality education in Taiwan by understanding the education system with the hope of promoting education for children from different backgrounds and inspiration for their future through the Learn By Space association. The Learn by Space Association started with the intention of promoting diverse education and raising awareness of quality education in Taiwan. We interviewed this association to learn more about space education and how we can help to contribute and give back to society.
Computer and Internet Access
As the internet is convenient at present days, working online allows our team to manage our work more efficiently. Sharing documents allows our teammates to work together and increase our productivity and the quality of our work. Searching for information online i s quicker and more convenient for us to collect information. In our classroom, the internet connection speed is around 10.58 megabytes per second (MBPS) and the download speed is 2 MBPS. All members have access to the internet both at home and at school. All 10 team members and two teachers have laptops and mobile phones a total of 12 for each device. Our school Kang Chiao International School Xiugang Campus is up on the mountain, so the connection will sometimes be unstabled, but it rarely happens.
Project Soundbite
Nowadays, people in every world have begun to focus on following the 17 SDGs goals and diverse education. Different schools assimilate SDGs Goals into their educational policy. Different schools began to promote quality education and make their classes more flexible and diverse. To an extent, there developed a way of learning which is Space education. There is an education institution that is Finland’s Arkki, this institution has been implemented in Shanghai, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. As a result, Taiwan began to follow this diverse way of education. After learning about this way of teaching, students at Kang Chiao International School Xiugang Campus began to explore education in Taiwan that includes the guidelines of SDG goals, which is a children’s education program — Learn By Space. They help children to understand that learning isn’t about having tests. They let students know that education can be diverse and be related to different topics.
Problems We Have to Overcome
During the process of 10 of us working on this project, we overcame one significant problem many teams all faced — time management. In our school, cyberfair is a club with 2 classes each week. But unfortunately, we spent too much time deciding on a topic, it caused a serious impact on our working time. Another factor is the training time during winter break. Many of our team members had made plans for the week, leading to the situation of us not having enough work done at the beginning of the semester. But despite these difficulties, we managed to communicate successfully and finished the project.
