A captivating island in East Asia, Taiwan, finds its balance of tradition and modernity in the complex world of nature, technology, and humanity. Vibrant signs and the aroma of sizzling street food lead the way to the heartwarming community of locals. The majestic mountains reach up for the skies, laying hundreds and thousands of extending hiking trails. Touching cultures of food and markets were established along the ports, blending in with Japanese, Chinese, and Southeast Asian qualities. Skyscrapers in the capital rise from the horizon, reflecting the bright light of the blazing sun and a humid subtropical climate.

Vibrant festivals weave Taiwan’s customs along with indigenous culture, history, and friendly and kind hospitality. Over the years, Taiwan has followed the global fashion trend and established its unique dressing style. With the arrival of fast fashion comes a great waste of clothing and raw materials. Our topic “Ecological Tales of the Wardrobe” discusses the context of sustainable fashion, statistics, as well as a popular zero-waste fashion brand in Taiwan: Story Wear.

The history of wearing fabric clothes to cover our body was introduced nearly 3 million years ago. The fashion industry has grown ever since, not only as a medium to express emotions, but also as a documentation of stories. Meanwhile, on the dark side, the fashion industry had brought together ones who desire profits. Fast fashion became prominent and waste of fabric became a societal norm. Ones who wear the same clothing multiple times were interpreted as poor. The rapid turnover of trends, fast fashion practices, and the mass production of clothing contribute to a substantial environmental footprint and have led unimaginable units of textile waste. Story Wear aims to investigate the issue through effective upcycles, while we, as responsible global citizens, aim to promote sustainble fashion actions. Through countless research and studies, we are honored to present this project to the community, with such information organized into a website, allowing individuals with related interests to dive deep into the context of sustainability and fashion.
