Contributions are the small actions that create a big change as a whole. In the category of Environmental Awareness and Issues, we explore how small action plans from local organizations could make our community a better place. Simple deeds of benevolence for family, friends, or neighbors, creating a continuous cycle of compassion that enhances our environment. In this project, we delve into one of these organizations: Creative Tech Textile Company. Despite being a small local company and facing adversities like high cost and unstable markets, they are determined to use their minor strength and guide our society into sustainability. Utilizing their specialty in textile industries, they change Taiwanese society through people's clothing. Along with making the material eco-friendly, they also enhance the comfort, increasing citizen life quality. Overall, Creative Tech Textile Company contributes to our society by reducing pollution and waste in production and improving product quality. We are willing to share and promote their action plans so that their efforts could be seen and spread. As the first company in the world to use recycled oyster shells as a material for clothing, Creative Tech Textile has contributed significantly to not only Taiwan’s economy, but the sustainability of the planet we call home. By recycling oyster shells, the company helps reduce one major environmental issue: oyster shell piling. This issue poses negative effects, like severe odor, marine ecosystem disruption, and even soil contamination. Not only so, products like down jackets require plucking living ducks, harming innocent animals. Thus, when utilizing grinded oyster shell powder, which is effective in keeping warmth, Creative Tech Textile prevents animals from being harmed. Additionally, Creative Tech Textile aims to urge people to come together to preserve our precious environment. Since it was founded, Creative Tech Textile has worked with multiple local and international companies, like Uniqlo, to manufacture products through its unique technology of nano-grinding oyster shells. These collaborations brought reducing the issue of oyster shell piles to the global stage, raising environmental awareness among more communities. In fact, consumers can help with solving environmental issues by simply purchasing products from those companies. Alone, we are insignificant and negligible; together, we are staunch and impactful.All in all, the Creative Tech Textile company fulfills our theme of contributing and uniting by stepping towards a sustainable community and leading Taiwanese industries to join their way to a shared goal.
Were there interesting discoveries you made, lessons you learned, or surprises that occurred as a result of this project? Did this project lead to other awards or recognitions?There were definitely some interesting insights and discoveries that we've discovered while doing this assignment and research. This project helped us realize that oyster shells, which seem like simple food waste, are actually a valuable material with numerous uses. We were surprised by how the oyster industry works, and also how oyster shells can turn into fabric materials that support our clothings. Furthermore, this project presented our understanding of circular economy systems, increased our interest in sustainability and environmental innovation, while promoting SDGS and all sustainable products, celebrating the idea of caring about our environment around us, and our home Earth.Our project could make a change in the Taiwanese and global society. By promoting the works and progress of the Creative Tech Textile Company, we are willing to urge more and more industries to follow their path. By creating this website, not only we could display the efforts of Mr. Wang and inspire more industrial professionals to join the circular economy, but we could also impact students and normal citizens to contribute to the environment in their own way. In our project, we introduced topics like circular economy and new technologies from Creative Tech Textile. We hope that this information could benefit individuals that are conducting similar research and raise environmental awareness, solving climate change and habitat crisis. From our webpage, viewers could learn about the current condition of our land and how they could make a difference. Additionally, we also constructed new relationships between industries by urging them to "contribute and unite", stepping towards sustainable production as a whole. Since webpages are more accessible to most citizens, this work could efficiently promote recycled materials and raise awareness among our environment.
