Description of Our Company

Located off the coast of Southeast Asia, Taiwan is known for its diverse ecosystem and wildlife. Meanwhile, technology industries are expanding beyond mere profit to the prosperity of our island and the globe. Diving into their efforts towards sustainability is crucial to step towards a better community. By exploring one of the companies that utilize recycled materials as their product material, we can gain a better understanding towards Taiwan's stance in the international circular economy. Creative Tech Textile Company is one of the various companies that has made significant progress in this area by using oyster shells to produce textile. We hope by investigating this project, we could promote recycled products and raise public awareness about environmental issues.

Summary of Our Project

In this project, our team is analyzing Taiwanese industries' efforts towards sustainable production by examining a specific example--the Creative Tech Textile Company. This company recycles oyster shells from food waste and reuses its powder to produce textile products that have better function. Despite the massive cost in the investment, they are determined to promote recycled products and reduce production waste. By studying their methods and motivation, we are willing to share their influence on Taiwanese and global industries.  Their efforts towards the development of a circular economy demonstrates how innovative products can make a big change in our environment and society. In conclusion, this project helps global citizens to recognize the urgency of environmental issues and the influence of industrial efforts towards a sustainable community.

Problems We Had to Overcome

Despite learning and adapting among our groups, we struggled in several aspects. First, contacting the company for an interview was a major issue since we are not sure whether Mr. Wang is willing to accept our request. Fortunately, he was supportive and welcome, which we were really grateful to have this wonderful research experience to delve into their perspective. Additionally, time management was also a crucial factor in the completion of our project. To address this, we distributed roles and tasks to members based on their strengths in order to enhance efficiency and quality of our project. For example, we leave the website design to a member that is interested in artistic tasks to make the website visually appealing. Lastly, finding relevant and credible information about the Creative Tech Textile company was difficult since it is a local company in Taiwan. Therefore, we used a lot of primary information from the interview itself to get a deeper understanding of the technology and team. Overall, overcoming these issues not only allowed us to produce a website that is complete and thoughtfully designed, but it also developed our skills of critical thinking and problem solving.

Our Project Sound Bite

Students: Participating in the International Schools CyberFair brought our team together because our communication and collaboration skills improved as we explored innovative technologies and ways to support the sustainability of our community and even the planet. Furthermore, CyberFair deepened our knowledge of the surrounding environment and identified core issues, inspiring us to become future leaders who point out and solve major issues efficiently.
School:Our participation enhanced our research abilities and critical thinking skills. This allows students who represent the school in any competition to demonstrate their strong abilities on the world stage.
Community: CyberFair allowed us to understand our community better as we conducted research and interviews about real-world issues. Additionally, this project inspires all members within our team to appreciate our community and those who contribute to the sustainability of our precious planet in any way possible.

Supporting Standards

How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
Our project on Creative Tech Textile showcases an effective implementation of interdisciplinary curriculum standards, which connects the gaps of knowledge theory with real-world innovations. Through the exploration of CEO Eddie Wang's leadership and the manufacture of Seawool, we directly covered the standards of environmental science by studying models of circular economy and the upcycling of marine waste. The analysis of the company's growing global expansion and its strategic alliance with well-known retailers incorporated the business and economic curriculum requirements, namely, the sustainable supply chain management and market adaption. Moreover, the professional interviewing and synthesis of complex technical data processes enhanced our technology knowledge and literacy skills, which consists of high level of digital communication and inquiry-based learning. Overall, this project demonstrates that we could apply social responsibility frameworks to contemporary industries, which exhibits a thorough understanding of cross-circular objectives in the context of textile innovation.
