Be Kind and Unite

Kindness, the most powerful virtue that unites the global community. The unity encourages individuals in a community to perform simple deeds of benevolence for family, friends, or neighbors, creating a continuous cycle of compassion. In our project, the Chi Po-lin Foundation has demonstrated kindness through its hard work in promoting Taiwan’s hidden beauty and drawing attention to neglected environmental issues through documentaries. Along with the opportunities provided by the foundation, the meaningful documentaries unite all Taiwanese in one heart, supporting more actions working on our homeland.
When awareness and motility are disrupted, our perception of others changes profoundly. We became more aware of the power, dependencies, and will of the involuntary aspect of culture that might intimidate us. The danger of self-centeredness and despair is presented in society. Kindness, a vital element that corresponds with a community’s sustainability and livability, influences both the sociological focus on apathy and the concerns given to tumultuous emotions within urban social dynamics. According to Richard Sennett, the city is not “just a place to live, to shop, and to go out and have kids play. It’s a place that implicates how one derives one’s ethics, how one develops a sense of justice”. Kindness bonds the community, and with community comes togetherness, turning into community perseverance. As a whole, we established a more bonded chain among people by adding a layer of generosity to enhance the cooperation between cultures and communities, calming and balancing, guiding human beings toward globalization with corresponding benefits such as cross-border economic growth, multicultural environment, technological innovation, united nationalism, and reducing conflicts at a faster pace.
One of the goals of the Chi Po-lin Foundation is to exhibit the beauty of Taiwan’s environment to the entire world. This is being kind to Taiwan’s environment, since there are environmental issues in Taiwan that people do not notice, yet might create drastic changes to the environment of this naturally beautiful island. For example, in the documentary film “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan From Above”, environmental issues such as illegal mining, pollution, over pumped groundwater, cement excavation, overuse of hillside land, and a lot more are portrayed. By raising awareness of those environmental issues, the Chi Po-lin Foundation as well aims to urge people to appreciate the beauty of Taiwan, and work together to preserve the beauty. By inspiring people to appreciate the beauty of nature, the Chi Po-lin Foundation is encouraging a sense of gratitude and respect for the environment around us, which can lead to a kinder and more compassionate attitude towards the environment. Through the Chi Po-lin Foundation’s hard work, more people are starting to discern the issues in our environment. Alone, we are insignificant and negligible; together, we are staunch and impactful.
The Chi Po-lin Foundation has programs and contests regarding digital video or photo recordings, providing opportunities to those who are interested in this field. As Chi Po-lin is famous for his documentary on the beauty of Taiwan and the environmental problem we are facing, the foundation also wants to train and gather people who have the same goal, ability, and passion. Hence, the foundation is generous and kind to these talented people, providing them with opportunities to showcase their work and to fund them for future projects.
