HuiKuang Guidedog School

Motivation for the establishment of the school History, goals and reasons for the establishment of the school

The reason for the establishment of Huikuang Guide Dog School is when Mr. Lee Teng-hui, former president of the department, visited San Francisco, USA. He saw a visually impaired friend leading a guide dog across the road calmly. He thought it would be great to be able to solve the problem of "walking" through guide dogs. Therefore, under the initiative of Mr. Lee Teng-hui, Director Zeng Wenxiong of the Taiwan Institute for the Reconstruction of the Blind, began to promote the "Guide Dog Development Project'' in 1991. He setted up the Huikuang Guide Dog Training Center, and successfully trained the first qualified guide dog in Taiwan in 1996. The motivation and goal of their establishment are to train guide dogs to serve the visually impaired, and to develop education and organize educational activities for the blind.
