The Sight Of The Blind -
HuiKuang Guidedog

Survey

From the two graphs above, we can see that over 70% of people never heard of Huikuang. Most of them who knew Huikuang heard it from broadcasts, tv, the Internet, and social media.
According to the graph above, we can see that most people think that the training center is for training guide dogs.
According to the graph, most people list the guide dog population in Taiwan to be rare(70.9%). There are only 42 guide dogs(with owners) in Taiwan, however the population of blind people in Taiwan is about 600,00. Which results in how the number of guide dogs stands less than 1/100 in Taiwan’s population of blind people. It is a reason why guide dogs in Taiwan aren’t regularly seen.
According to the two graphs above, all of the people who answered the two questions had not been a volunteer for guide dog association.

Conclusion

Overall, the statistics above have shown that the majority of people have a lack of knowledge on guide dogs and the Huikuang Guide Dog Foundation. They aren’t that sure on how and why we should treat those guide dogs friendly. You may look at some of the graphs above, among all of the responders, only 30% of people have heard about the Huikuang Guide Dog Foundation. This shows that the society isn’t that familiar with guide dogs and why they are there. In fact, some of the stores in Taiwan don’t even let guide dogs into the store! The unfriendly behavior made more people have bad impressions about guide dogs. However, still some of them are able to answer correctly through the questionnaire and are willing to become one of the volunteers to help the Huikuang Guide Dog Foundation. If we are able to spread out more of that positive knowledge to the public, then the community may change their personal biases and preconceptions about guide dogs.
