The Sight Of The Blind -
HuiKuang Guidedog

Introduction

As guide dogs are now not that commonly seen and acknowledged in the society, we should spread more information about guide dogs to the public in order to make the society more friendly to them. Through our research, although there are approximately 56,000 people blind in Taiwan, not over 10% of them own a guide dog. Certainly, owning a guide dog will cost you a lot of money with no doubt, however if the public is able to donate funds and help out with producing more guide dogs to the society, then there will be a chance for more blind people to own a guide dog of their own! As the guide dogs aren’t that friendly treated in the society nowadays in Taiwan, an association was founded in 1992 and was funded by the Lions Clubs International Foundation. It was recognized by the International Guide Dog Foundation in 2006, and became the first qualified guide dog foundation in Taiwan. The Huikuang Guide Dog Foundation was established to train guide dogs. In addition, it was also the first guide dog school throughout the whole country. Their most significant job is to take care of guide dogs and provide training courses to help the dogs develop into a real guide dog that can guide the blinders as their eyes. After researching and interviewing, we learned that the foundation has produced little amount of guide dogs because of the lack of funds. In addition, they have been spreading the knowledge about guide dogs through the recent years in order to make the public have more acknowledgement on guide dogs. They wish to establish a friendly environment to guide dogs and blinders in order to make the blind people have a more convenient life and make guide dogs more like a real person that helps blind people.
