PROJECT INTRO

As the population is growing, the lack of employment opportunities and infrastructural facilities becomes increasingly crucial. Not only are individuals getting paid the same salary and doing more work, and yet it has become more challenging for homeless people to find jobs. After all, homeless people do work. According to NPOst, over 70% of homeless individuals hold jobs, and many of them possess multiple jobs. Although its salary is sufficient to cover the cost of food on such a daily basis, it is insufficient to provide housing for homeless people. The Homeless Taiwan Association investigated the issue and allowed a sizable number of homeless individuals to improve their living standards. In this project, we will discuss homelessness: definition, causes of homelessness, solutions, statistics, misconceptions, and the Homeless Taiwan Association. We are honored to present this project to the community, in order to raise public awareness of the topic, and also organize and rearrange knowledge of homelessness into a website that will allow future researchers to receive accurate information.

MOTIVATION

Who is going to aid Taiwan's homeless people? The numbers are concerning; the number of homeless individuals has increased by over 60% in only a year! With a 28% unemployment rate, it appears that the crisis will only intensify. According to the World Bank, slums or squatter communities house 2 billion people, or around one-third of the world's population. Homelessness has become particularly serious in Taiwan as a result of gentrification. Affordable housing has raised the demand for low-cost property, forcing many impoverished people out of their houses and into the streets. Because the number of homeless persons in Taiwan is increasing, we questioned who in Taiwan, in particular, is helping to better the conditions and environment of homeless people. We discovered the "Homeless Taiwan Association" while surfing the internet. They are spreading generosity to those in need of shelter and houses, while also expanding their team to assist Taiwan's homeless.

PROJECT SUMMARY

In the present day, various problems and issues are currently being addressed, such as, but not limited to, acid deposition, a rise in greenhouse emissions, and municipal pollution. With that being said, we are making a significant contribution to one of Taiwan's major problems: "homeless people." The issue of homelessness extends beyond individuals who do not have a place to live. It also has a massive impact on the economy, public health, and society in general. If one does not have a complete understanding of homelessness, one could assume and categorize them as "the gluttonous and lazy ones." The factors of homelessness can be divided into two groups, structural factors and individual vulnerabilities. Vast disasters caused by natural disasters, government policies, or shifts in the economy were indeed examples of structural factors. Individual vulnerabilities, on the other hand, can be classified in various ways. Personal or familial events contributed to interpersonal relationship fission whenever the support system is weak and unable to meet the most basic needs in life on its own. Furthermore, unemployment, early parent death, sexual orientation not accepted by friends and relatives, alcohol or drug abuse, psychiatric disorder, experience with domestic violence or sexual assault, rehabilitated individuals, and so on. We interviewed the Homeless Taiwan Association, which has been promoting homelessness issues since 2011. Wishing that citizens demonstrate empathy, humility, curiosity, respect, gratitude, philosophical and systematic thinking, interpersonal and practical skills, the seven world citizen abilities, and reconsider their relationship with the world. A survey, interview, and information gathering would be combined into this website to influence and enhance understanding of homelessness.
