Advantages and Disadvantages
Energy Usage Efficiency
In recent years, global total material consumption has continuously increased to 8 times its previous levels. Therefore, when certain materials are scarce, the usage of the circular economy becomes important. The circular economy is a concept that makes the products to be continually recycled into new raw materials. To further achieve environmental conservation and ultimately realize the goal of sustainable operations. This process does not just reduce the use and consumption of raw materials but also decreases the emission of toxic substances, and the speed of climate change. However, implementing circular economics also brings large amounts of upfront costs. Logically, a circular economy should aim for “zero waste”. Some companies may face challenges due to lacking technology and finances. It could lead to an inability to maximize energy efficiency and might have the risk that the process of recycling waste causes greater pollution to the environment, which makes the circular economy a slogan that cannot be truly implemented.
Its Effect towards Society
Circular economics have an impact on the consumer and the entire society. Compared to the traditional production process, a circular economy requires additional raw material production methods, and valuable resources become more circulated in the market. This reduces the company's reliance on fluctuations in raw material prices, increases business flexibility, and enhances the economic independence of the entire country. It not only supports local material markets but also creates employment opportunities in response to increased demand for product maintenance and repair, thereby alleviating economic inequality in society.
However, traditional industries will be impacted, leading to significant transformations in these sectors. This could potentially result in unavoidable unemployment. Moreover, the circular economy is a relatively new business model. Without in-depth research and exploration, both businesses and customers may be unfamiliar with this concept and not fully understand its true impact. This lack of understanding can lead to issues with consumer acceptance, resulting in reduced sales volumes for circular economy products and affecting their market impact and competitiveness.
