Environmental Conservation

The Purpose of Environmental Conservation

Environmental conservation emphasizes the attitude of human beings towards the use of natural resources. The goal is to protect the Earth’s environment and ensure ecological balance and resource sustainability. It is reducing the negative impact of human activities on the environment and preventing the abuse of natural environmental resources. It is crucial for maintaining biodiversity, mitigating climate change, ensuring habit suitability, and enforcing symbiosis between humans and nature.

The Development of Environmental Conservation

It was not until industrial pollution in the 1970s that people began to develop an awareness of environmental protection. In the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, “environmental conservation” became a groundbreaking topic in that period and attracted the attention of various countries. With such a starting background, in 1973 European Economic Community (European Union) introduced an environmental action plan, laying the foundation for modern world environment conservation. Initially, people put ‘environmental protection action’ in the first place to address issues such as air and water pollution. However, about 70 percent of the country was in the stages of either development or undevelopment. This limits the national economic development and further contributes to the gradual maturation of the concept of circular economy.

Eco-Friendly Products Creates Green Business Opportunities

In the modern day, global attention to the circular economy has increased, which has increased the proportion of green enterprises worldwide and the ability of small enterprises who create sustainable operations. Green innovative industries have become one of the conditions for survival in the international market. Firstly, the establishment of Global Environmental Protection Laws and Regulations and the environmental awareness increase in consumers led to the proposition of the “Global Green New Deal” in 2009 and “Green Economy Transformation” in 2011 by the United Nations, advocating for simultaneous revitalization of the economy and environment protection. The reformation of the process of production and technology has enhanced competitiveness in the industry. With the growth of the international environmental trend, green products have found a larger market. Consumers are willing to purchase products that reduce environmental burdens, and besides price and functionality, ecological conservation has become one of the modern consumers' purchasing considerations.

Methods to Continue Environmental Conservation Efforts

If environmental protection is prioritized, a country's economy will be constrained. The country should balance development with environmental conservation to advance the concept of “Sustainable Development”. Sustainable development is a wide range of development, therefore, its core goal should be limited. Satisfying people’s development goals, requires limiting resource expenditure and pollution, to bring balanced relationships to people. Circular economics is one of the keys to sustainable development. For example, collect recyclables or ocean waste, process them into new products, and circulate them in the market. The reuse of these waste materials not only generates commercial value for the products, creating new life for them but also reducing the carbon footprint of the products and improving the environment.
