On a daily basis, thousands of animals are harmed in Taiwan to satisfy human needs of clothing and warmth. This causes a significant decrease in animal population, especially when there are better alternatives for clothmaking. An example of this is the shedding of ducks. In Taiwan, ducks are held down while poultry farmers peel their feathers off. These feathers are then used to weave into clothing or stuffed into daily items like pillows. Hundreds of ducks are tortured simply to satisfy us. Not only ducks, but millions of animals are killed worldwide daily to convert them into stuffers and fabric. This is one of many examples of how inefficient clothing-making can be detrimental to mother nature.
Around Taiwan, nearly 180,000 tons of oyster shells are wasted annually. Oysters are fished from the shore and collected for consumption. After they have fulfilled us humans, we leave them to rot in landfills. This significantly increases the methane production in the air, due to the heavy waste. They can also emit strong odors, encouraging pollution. It can pollute not only the air, but also water, and habitats. Not to mention, the bacteria on the millions of shells can pose public health risks. Oyster shells are another key reason why our environment is suffering from our actions. The many disadvantages that this waste proposes should be solved for the better.
By connecting these two ideas, it is clear that more needs to be done to prevent harm to our environment and our animals. This is the primary goal of Creative Teach Textile. We take those wasted oyster shells and turn them into a "bioceramic" material. By grinding the shells into a fine powder and mixing it with recycled plastic, they create a fabric that feels just like wool. This solves both problems at once. They no longer need to torture ducks for their feathers and stop the oyster shells from rotting in our landfills. By choosing Creative Tech Textile, we stop being the cause of suffering and start being the solution for a cleaner Taiwan.
